The El Toro Freshman were in a battle yesterday afternoon defending their home turf. The Tesoro Titans were in town and after they took a 7-0 lead Dylan Reynolds hit Connor Kentros for a 43-strike to move the beloved Chargers within one after the two-point conversion failed. On the ensuing drive the Chargers defense stiffened and forced a three and out. Milo Pena partially blocked the Tesoro punt and ET was in business on the Tesoro 32-yard line. The Chargers offense who moved the ball very well all day was not able to convert the good field position into points. The Titans took a 14-6 lead and then El Toro went on an impressive march. Starting a drive on its on 28-yard line Steven Gutierrez connected with Kentros for a 32-yard gain to the Tesoro 40-yard line. Mike Brown had two impressive runs behind the downhill blocking of ET’s O-Line that pushed the ball inside the redzone. As the second quarter started Gutierrez hit Logan Jolliffe on a swing pass that put the ball first and goal from the Tesoro 4-yard line. On fourth down the Chargers pass went incomplete and Tesoro took over on downs. Both defenses stiffened as they forced punts on the next four possessions. Tesoro then struck to take a 21-6 lead. The Chargers again got the ball back and marched right down into the Titans redzone but were unable to convert the drive into points as the half ended. Tesoro took the opening second half drive and scored to increase their lead to 28-6. The Chargers offense again marched right down the field mixing in some timely completions and impressive runs that put ET back into the Titans redzone. The Chargers turned the ball over on a fluky play that gave the Titans the ball back on their own 42-yard line. Tesoro was able to convert the turnover into point to make it 35-6. Each team added another score and final was 42-12. The score was certainly not indicative of how well the Chargers played and close the game was. The Chargers are definitely making big strides as they head into league play in the coming weeks.
