River Simmons – El Toro DB: Class of 2016 – Currently playing DB at Doane
River Simmons, an El Toro fixture and lock-down cornerback, took his defensive prowess to the mid-west this past season. The Doane Tigers, led by their 10 year head coach Matt Franzen, signed River to board their program and have an impact in their secondary. Doane College is located in the heart of football county, Crete, Nebraska. During the 2015 season at El Toro, River helped lead a talented El Toro Defense, as he intercepted 7 passes including a pick 6 against rival Trabuco that went the length of the field, and another against East Lake of Chula Vista when he jumped a route and raced down the sideline for another score. River embodies all the traits of El Toro football and is carrying those traditions at Doane. High character, excels in the classroom, and exhibits honesty, integrity, and hard work in everything he does. The Tiger’s have a winner in River Simmons, and all of us in the Charger Nation are proud.
Former El Toro standouts Trey Tinsley (QB) and Dillon Sherman (LB), who are now proud Washington State Cougars, are getting after it in spring football camp in the Northwest. Chargers nation is proud of them as they play in the Pac-12 for Mike Leach’s team. The Chargers were also represented by a 3rd Cougar, Kaleb Fossum, who was a standout kick and punt return specialist and wide receiver for the Cougs. Kaleb has transferred to Nevada and will use his talent to help the Wolfpack in big ways now. These 3 Chargers will meet together again when Washington St plays Nevada at Martin Stadium on Saturday, September 23. Charger fans will be watching that one proudly!
